Q: Does my purchase really go directly to the creator and support his project and well-being.
A:Yes, it sure does!
Q: Most self-published graphic novels/comics have bad dialogue and predictable storylines. How do I know this one will be different?
A: The story in The Tale of Moor'i is non-linear, therefore making it quite dynamic and unpredictable. For many readers, the majority of the story is told with the illustrations and the dialogue is secondary. However, the dialogue is an essential element of the flow in this story, it's well written, exceptionally edited by a professional copyrighter, and entertaining. Guaranteed :)
Q: Why is this book so odd looking?
A: This is because the creator did not want to adhere to any stylistic guidelines. This is a graphic novel, but more so, it is a project in telling an story through a vivid and unorthodox method of illustration.
Q: Can I order multiple copies for my store?
A: Why yes, you can, but it would be best to do this directly through my printer here. If you would like to go through me, it's possible, as long as I have as many books on hand as you need.
Q: Why are you making this book, since you are a fine artist and have no illustrative or comic background?
A: Because I love the format, and I want to tell stories with my drawings. I am a huge graphic novel fan and love pretty much all that I've read, so this is my opportunity to use my skills as a fine artist to tell an entertaining story.
Q: Do you work alone or collaboratively?
A: Mostly I work alone, when I have time off work. I have worked with many people to get this book edited, colored and finished. And many of the initial ideas, and processes to get things going took a lot of collaboration with friends, family and other artists. I am interested in working with anybody on any project in the future. I'd like to try out different stories, and techniques as I progress in the world of graphic novels.
Q: So, if I buy this book of yours, what's in it for me?
A: Great question! Along with a free Moor'i sticker, and a colored map, you will get a book that is unlike any other out there. I have read many many graphic novels, and there really is not anything like this, and of this quality for a self-published work. From my first hand experience talking to fans and first time readers, they all are over-stimulated by the illustrations at first, but as you immerse yourself in the book and story, the panels give way to microcosms of meditative and intricate worlds. The majority of my readers tell me that they can look through the book over and over again, always finding some new element to a panel or a scene that speaks to them differently. The book and story are intentionally non-linear. I wanted to make a book that did not follow the standard structure of most the graphic novels that I've seen. I am an artist first and foremost, and my intention in this particular project is for the book to be a consistently enriching piece of work.
Q: I'm not really an artsy or imaginative person...will I like this book?
A: Yes, this book is overflowing with enough imagination that anyone will get into it. I have fans as young as 8 years old and as old as 93, and they all get it, and love it.
Q: Is this the only book you are planning on doing?
A: Right now, the plan is to do 2 more books concerning Moor'i, the second which is presently being drawn and written. I also have plans for some other short stories about childhood, imagination, and growing up called "Leisure Trail" and I am currently working on backgrounds for a few animation projects, and short films
Q: Who are your artistic influences for The Tale of Moor'i?
A: My main influences are, Otomo (Akira), Miyazaki, and Tezuka. I love epic Japanese manga, and I think above anything else, it has influenced my illustrative style the most.
This graphic novel is self-published and distributed by the creator
